Summer 2024 Call for Papers!

If you are a KPU student who has written an essay in a 2000-, 3000-, or 4000-level English course this semester—Summer 2024—that you would like to submit for consideration, please follow the submission instructions “For Authors” (you will be asked to register with the site before submitting).

Alight seeks to highlight the diversity of the voices and perspectives that enliven English courses at KPU. To that end, the journal welcomes submissions that focus on any text or topic that you studied this semester: novels, short stories, poems, plays, films, graphic novels, works of non-fiction.

Your submission can be a research-based essay (with secondary sources), but feel free to submit original close readings as well. Secondary sources are not a requirement. There is no maximum or minimum word count.

Please proofread your submission carefully. If your essay includes secondary sources (and remember, this is not a requirement), please use MLA format (9th edition) for citations.

Summer 2024 submissions will be considered for the 2025 issue. The deadline to submit your Summer 2024 essay is August 31, 2024. Only one submission per student, per semester.

Alight is not accepting creative writing submissions at this time, so please do not submit your own works of fiction or poetry.
